'Batty about Bats' in Year 2

22nd Jan 2026
A big thank you to Mrs C Reilly for bringing in a bat she rescued. Mrs Reilly is a volunteer with the Northern Ireland Bat Group.  We learned all about bats:

  • This bat is called a pipistrelle bat.

  • Bats are mammals.

  • This was an adult male bat.

  • Bats eat live food such as mealworms and midges.

  • Bats have 2 thumbs and 8 fingers.

  • Bats hibernate during the winter.

  • A bat’s feet point backwards, which helps them hang upside down.
